In The Beginning there were no animals
Now there are many...
First there were the goats. After experimenting with a few other breeds we discovered the perfect goat for us, the Guernsey. Beautiful, quiet (well, most of the time), gentle, and loving. We call them 'hobbit' goats - small but perfectly proportioned. Their milk is mild and creamy, makes the best goat cheese ever. Pictured right is BlueCollar Marigold enjoying some 'mountain grub'. She was one of our foundation goats, and one of the best goats that ever lived. We started with 3, now have 54. Addicted? Maybe!
Next were the sheep. We had long admired the Icelandic breed, and had dreamed of one day having a flock of our own. In 2009 that dream became a reality. Pictured above left was our foundation flock purchased from Hawks Mountain Ranch: Elsa, Magnus, and Edda. We have not been disappointed! They are kind, gentle, friendly, and are good mothers. Their wool is marvelous and their meat is mouthwatering.
Making your dreams a reality...
At Solid Rock Ranch we are dedicated to providing quality registered breeding stock. Goats are registered with the British Goat Society and Sheep with the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation. We are charter members of the Guernsey Goat Breeders of America, members of ADGA, and members of the Icelandic Sheep Breeders of North America. All animals are specifically bred for easy kidding/lambing, good mothering skills, good confirmation, mild temperament, quality milk production (goats), and quality fleeces (sheep). We are certified scrapie free for export. Solid Rock Ranch is a closed herd to prevent disease.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: All sales are final. We cannot accept animal returns due to our closed herd policy and to maintain our scrapie export status. A 50% deposit is required to place a hold on an animal which is to be paid no later than 14 days from time of purchase agreement. The balance is due to be paid by cash or cashiers check at time of acquisition. All babies are raised by their mothers unless prohibited. We feel it makes a healthier offspring. The babies are handled extensively so grow up just as friendly as bottle babies. Animals can be tested for disease at buyers expense if requested.
